Tennessee voters who want to cast a ballot before Election Day have one final chance Thursday.¶
Early voting for Tennessee’s Nov. 3 state and federal general election ends today after it began on Oct. 14. Any registered voter can vote early without giving a reason, but hours and locations vary by county, so voters should check before heading to the polls.¶
What Voters Need Today
During early voting, voters may use any early voting location in the county where they are registered. The Tennessee Firefly’s early voting guide lists county locations and hours, while the state’s GoVoteTN lookup can show a voter’s registration information, early voting sites, and sample ballot.¶
Voters casting a ballot in person must bring a federal or Tennessee state photo ID that shows their name and photograph. The ID may be expired, but college student IDs, out-of-state IDs, and IDs issued by a city or county are not accepted.¶
The ballot includes races for governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House, the Tennessee House, and odd-numbered Tennessee Senate districts. Voters will also see three proposed constitutional amendments, while local races and questions will depend on where they live.¶
Waiting Until Election Day
Voters who do not cast a ballot Thursday can still vote during Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3. Early voting locations are often different from Election Day, so voters should use GoVoteTN to confirm their assigned location and hours before leaving home.¶
The deadline to register for this election was Oct. 5, and the deadline to request an absentee ballot was Oct. 24. Voters who already have an absentee ballot should mail it early enough for their county election commission to receive it by the close of polls on Election Day.¶
