The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) and the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN) announced 13 new schools have received the Tennessee STEM/STEAM School Designation for 2024.This brings the number of Tennessee STEM/STEAM School Designation schools to 127.¶
The designation recognizes schools across the state for preparing students for post-secondary and future career success by continual commitment to implementing and promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) or STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).¶
“These designations are testaments to the state’s commitment to educational excellence and preparing students for their futures,” said Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds. “We commend these schools for prioritizing math and science education, ensuring that Tennessee students are prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow."¶
The state developed the STEM/STEAM School Designation in 2018 to provide a “roadmap” for schools to successfully implement a STEM/STEAM plan at the local level. Schools recognized by TDOE and TSIN for the use of STEM/STEAM teaching and learning strategies serve as a model for other schools to learn from.Each school underwent an application process that included completing a self-evaluation, participating in interviews, and hosting site visits.This list of new schools include:¶
