Members of the Williamson County School Board unanimously voted to name longtime district leader and teacher Dr. Leigh Webb as interim superintendent at a special called meeting Monday night.¶
Webb will replace Superintendent Jason Golden, who announced last week that he would be joining Franklin Special District as its Associate Director of Finance, Administration, and Legal Services. Golden has served as superintendent for seven years, after replacing former Superintendent Mike Looney in June 2019.¶
In a message to staff, Golden said he provided the district with 45 days' notice of his departure. That would make his last day August 7, the Friday before the start of Williamson County’s fall school year. During Monday’s meeting, board members motioned by agreement for an early contract termination, leading to Golden’s proposed last day of July 15 instead.¶
Golden agreed to the terms of the early termination and said it would be wise to begin this transition for Williamson County Schools now, rather than waiting until right before students return in the fall. Golden also shared his strong support for Webb before the board voted.¶
“Webb is as complete an administrator as I've ever worked with,” Golden said. “She's as good as they come, so I do recommend approval.”¶
Experience in the School System
Serving as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools since 2018, Webb has had over two decades of experience within Williamson County Schools.¶
She began her career at Franklin High as an English teacher in 2004, then served as Ravenwood High’s assistant principal in 2005, and held the position for 8 years. Webb later transitioned to lead at Centennial High School until 2017, when the district named her Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. One year later, Webb took on the role of Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools.¶
“Serving as a WCS teacher and school leader has deepened my understanding of the extraordinary work happening here,” Webb said. “The professionalism, passion and skill that drive student success are evident in the classrooms, schools and offices all across our district.”¶
Board Chair Josh Brown pushed for Webb’s nomination and said that the Board knows she’ll lead with “integrity and focus.”¶
“The people in this school system have a lot of trust in Dr. Webb,” Brown said. “This is a really important role, and it’s important that the transition is seamless.”¶
Along with Brown, 6th District Board Member Jay Galbreath also voiced his support for Webb and said he is “totally in favor of this” and thinks that Webb will do a great job in this new role.¶
The new Interim Superintendent is set to begin her role on July 15.¶
