Wilson County Schools (WCS) Director Jeff Luttrell congratulated six schools for recently being named as Reward Schools by the Tennessee Department of Education at Monday’s Board of Education meeting. ¶
According to Luttrell, Gladeville Elementary School, Gladeville Middle School, Lakeview Elementary School, Mt. Juliet Elementary School, Rutland Elementary School, and Tuckers Crossroads School each earned the recognition for “outstanding student success in achievement and growth” during the 2023-24 school year. He added that more results about district schools’ performance in the 2023-24 school year are still pending as of this week. ¶
“We're proud of those for all their efforts - the students, teachers, administrators. I know we had a couple more that were within just tenth of a point, but [they also] had another strong year academically,” he said during his director’s report on Monday.¶
Deputy Director Jennifer Cothron said that this marks the fifth year in a row that Rutland has been named as a Reward School by the department. She added that this was the second consecutive year for Lakeview and Gladeville.¶
“That shows the consistency that they have in the processes and procedures in place and what's happening in those buildings, so we're very proud of those schools,” she commented. ¶
In addition to these achievements, Luttrell said Mt. Juliet High School was recently recognized as a divisional finalist for the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association’s A.F. Bridges Award, which is given to schools for their sportsmanship at athletic events. He added that Green Hill High School’s E.J. Wood was also named “district athletic director of the year” at the association’s recent annual meeting. ¶
“Congratulations to him, and for that honor,” Luttrell said. ¶
In other business, district leaders said the school system held a groundbreaking this week for the construction of the new Central Pike Elementary School location. The district aims to open the new school in 2026. ¶
