Adults in Tennessee who have not graduated from high school can now earn a high school diploma rather than a GED through a new online program recently launched at Dekalb County Schools in partnership with the online education provider Graduate Alliance.
According to a recent announcement, the new Dekalb County Diploma Completion Program gives students flexibility to complete their high school requirements, as well as access to 24/7 tutoring and personalized support from teachers and academic coaches. Dekalb County Schools Director of Schools Patrick Cripps said he’s excited to help adults throughout the state “finish what they started,” adding that the program aims to make earning a high school diploma more feasible for adult students juggling other responsibilities.
“Our work-from-anywhere high school completion program enables adult learners to fit their studies into their already busy lives,” he said.
Through the program, students can graduate with a standard high school diploma and can earn industry-recognized workforce credentials to gain additional skills and increase employability.
According to the announcement, Graduation Alliance has helped more than 9,200 adults graduate through similar programs in nine other states. It noted that recent results of a survey taken 6-9 months after graduation from their programs revealed that 64 percent of graduates got a better job or received a raise and had average annual earnings increased by about $5,200, among other key findings.
“Going back to high school as an adult can feel overwhelming, especially with other priorities like family and work. Our program is designed to give adult students the flexibility, accountability, and support they need to achieve their educational goals,” Graduation Alliance CEO Ron Klausner said in the announcement.
