The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) and the Tennessee STEM Innovation Network (TSIN) announced 13 new schools have received the Tennessee STEM/STEAM School Designation for 2024.
This brings the number of Tennessee STEM/STEAM School Designation schools to 127.
The designation recognizes schools across the state for preparing students for post-secondary and future career success by continual commitment to implementing and promoting STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) or STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics).
“These designations are testaments to the state’s commitment to educational excellence and preparing students for their futures,” said Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Lizzette Reynolds. “We commend these schools for prioritizing math and science education, ensuring that Tennessee students are prepared for the jobs of today and tomorrow.”
The state developed the STEM/STEAM School Designation in 2018 to provide a “roadmap” for schools to successfully implement a STEM/STEAM plan at the local level. Schools recognized by TDOE and TSIN for the use of STEM/STEAM teaching and learning strategies serve as a model for other schools to learn from.
Each school underwent an application process that included completing a self-evaluation, participating in interviews, and hosting site visits.

- Arnold Memorial Elementary School, Cleveland City Schools
- Creek Cherokee Elementary School, Cleveland City School
- Harrison Bay Future Ready Center, Hamilton County Schools
- Oliver Springs Middle School, Roane County Schools
- Rose Hill School, Jackson-Madison County Schools
- Sea Isle Elementary School, Memphis-Shelby County Schools
- Taylor Elementary School, Bradley County Schools
- Valley View Elementary School, Bradley County Schools
- West View Elementary School, Washington County Schools
STEAM
- Crosstown High School, Memphis-Shelby County Schools
- Elmore Park Middle School, Bartlett City Schools
- Lake Forest Middle School, Bradley County Schools
- Liberty Creek Elementary School, Sumner County Schools
Schools selected receive a STEAM/STEM designation for five years and then must complete a redesignation process. This year 15 schools successfully did including:

- L&N STEM Academy, Knox County Schools
- Oakmont Elementary School, Sumner County Schools

- Whitehaven Elementary School, Memphis-Shelby County Schools
STEAM
- Jack Anderson Elementary School, Sumner County Schools
- Jackson Christian Elementary School, Private School
- Maxine Smith STEAM Academy, Memphis-Shelby County Schools
- Midway Elementary School, Roane County Schools
- Moore Magnet Elementary School, Clarksville-Montgomery County Schools
- Overall Creek Elementary School, Murfreesboro City Schools
- Union Elementary School, Sumner County Schools
- William Burrus Elementary School, Sumner County Schools
All K-12 schools are eligible to receive the STEAM/STEM designation.
