Jackson County Superintendent appointed to key leadership role with the Tennessee Department of Education

The Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) announced current Jackson County Schools Superintendent Kristy Brown will take over as the department’s new Chief Academic Officer on July 15.

In this new role, Brown will lead the divisions of instructional strategy, early learning, special education and intervention programs, and learning acceleration.

She will also oversee Tennessee’s Career and Technical Education (CTE), which prepares students for success in their chosen career pathway after high school graduation.

“Kristy Brown’s leadership at Jackson County Schools has led to strong implementation of innovative programs that support student success, and we are thrilled to have her expertise on our team as we continue our focus on statewide implementation of major academic initiatives and policies set forward by Governor Bill Lee and the Tennessee General Assembly,” said Interim TDOE Commissioner Sam Pearcy. “Kristy is a passionate educator who will bring important perspective and experience to support our mission to set all students on a path to success.”

Before becoming Superintendent of the school district, Brown worked in various roles, both teaching and administration, at Jackson County High School and is a Jackson County High School Graduate.

During her career within the district, Brown incorporated many state initiatives to bolster student achievement, including the Reading 360 initiative and Grow Your Own programs that she will now lead within the department.
