MNPS offers families a convenient way to engage in school choice

Metro Nashville Public Schools (MNPS) has opened the optional schools application process for the 2023-24 school year.

This process provides families and parents with the convenience of being able to select from over 100 open enrollment school options within the district. That includes many public charter schools that are among the highest performing in the district.

“The optional schools application process is an important part of ensuring that every public-school student in Nashville has the opportunity to find their perfect school fit,” said Laurie Brown, Senior Vice President of Nashville Advocacy at the Tennessee Charter School Center. “We are humbled that about 1 in 5 public school students have chosen to attend a public charter school, and their results show us why: Nashville’s public charter schools comprise nearly 30 percent of the district’s top performing schools. To see this many charter schools among our city’s top-performers is inspiring. We encourage all families to consider whether a public charter school is the right fit for their students, and we look forward to welcoming the next cohort of families into our public charter school community for the 2023-24 school year.”

The MNPS schools application process is accessible online in multiple languages, as well as in-person at the individual schools. The submission deadline for online applications is Friday, February 10, 2023 at 11:59 pm CST. Applications filled out and submitted in person are due at 4:30 pm CST the same day.

Once the application deadline has passed, applicants will be involved in the random selection process, where applicants will be drawn at random to fill all available vacancies within the school. Selection day results will be available on Monday, March 6 online.

Not all public charter schools participate in the optional schools application process. Families interested in schools not participating should go through the school’s website to learn more about their individual application and enrollment process.
