Nashville State Community College student advisor honored for military service

The Tennessee Board of Regents has awarded Nashville State Community College (NSCC) student success veteran advisor Dawne Moore the Chancellor’s Commendation for Military Veterans. This award recognizes military veterans’ bravery, sacrifice, and service.

Moore supports student veterans at NSCC’s Clarksville campus and connects them with campus resources they may need. NSCC President Dr. Shanna L. Jackson nominated Moore for the commendation as a recognition of her work at the college, and her admirable military background.

Moore is a retired U.S. Army Master Sergeant who served in the Army for 28 years, earning over ten medals, ribbons, and accolades for her distinguished efforts in her career. Born in the west Indies and raised in the US Virgin Islands, Moore now calls Tennessee home.

Nashville State is one of few Tennessee colleges to earn the distinction of a Veterans Education Transition Support (VETS) Certified Campus, a distinction endowed by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. NSCC prioritizes veteran outreach and creating a supportive, resourceful environment where student veterans can successfully engage in their education, a mission Moore is passionate about.

Before coming to NSCC, Moore worked with the Army Career Skills Program, assisting military personnel as they transitioned out of the military and into their next careers. After serving within that program for two years, she began working at NSCC in 2019 and continuing her work in guiding fellow veterans towards success.

The Chancellor’s Commendation is a prestigious award, honoring just 39 recipients across the state this year.
